Who Is Mellissa?
I’m a Christian Jamaica-born writer who grew up in the U.S. from the age of six, and served in Uncle Sam’s Navy for five years (which was my first place of employment, by the way. Quite an experience).
After the Navy, I barely took a breather before diving head first into film school at Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL. (Thank God for the Montgomery G.I. Bill.)
Speaking of the MGIB, I had exactly 13 months of benefits left after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Film, so I took no break whatsoever and went straight into Full Sail’s Entertainment Business Master of Science program (a 13-month curriculum).
After interning and working full-time at the school for two short years, I learned the hard way that a creative like me is no fit for an office job.
So I quit.
I dove into entrepreneurship cold turkey, studying the writing industry from all angles: book publishing; freelance writing, proofreading, and editing; journalism; Internet marketing; blogging; and copywriting.
(No worries, I made sure to save up before making the plunge. 🙂 )
While I’ve seen my fair share of struggles and famine bouts over these last four years, I haven’t regretted the decision yet, and I continue to study the industry and learn new skills to better serve you.
It’s my passion to help you get your message out to the world, be it a website, book, magazine or newspaper, or marketing material. What you have to say is very important, and nothing should stand in your way.
